The SSN was given a new design which is the one we know it today on June 25th 2011 and some changes appeared in area numbers but had no change to their group number or serial number.  Prior to June 25th, 2011, some SSNs had different Area Numbers from their Group Number.  For example, SSNs starting with 567 through 571 were originally assigned to Camden County, New Jersey residents before WW II. This rule applies from June 1971 when they changed their procedures for SSNs issued in Puerto Rico. Â Numbers have been reused since 1972 after this date thought they still existed in SSN records.
